Confirmation Candidate and Sponsor Conversation

CONFIRMATION CANDIDATE & SPONSOR CONVERSATION

As part of the preparation process for Confirmation, each candidate is asked to complete four guided conversations with their chosen Sponsor. A conversation outline is provided below to guide the conversations between candidate and sponsor. You may pick one or two questions to focus on during each meeting, or other questions as they come to mind. Since sponsors may not live locally this conversation can happen in-person, over the phone, or through a video conferencing platform (Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, etc.).

These conversations should be completed by March 15, 2023. If you have any questions, please email Alex Erickson at alexerickson@goodshepherdgv.org. Candidates should complete a short reflection on their conversation with their sponsor. The form to fill out the reflection can be found at www.goodshepherdgv.org/sponsormeetingreflection

As the relationship between candidate and sponsor is one of mentorship in the Faith our hope is that this will be the first of many conversations between candidate and sponsor during the course of the preparation year.
Please discuss the topics below in relation to EACH of your lives.

1. What do you remember or what pictures or stories have you been told about your receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation? Who were your sponsors/godparents? What Church community were you part of? Have you experienced other Sacramental events that were meaningful like marriages or funerals?

2. If you could tell your younger self a thing or two that would have made life better, what would you tell yourself?

3. What have you liked best about being a Catholic? How has sharing in the Catholic Faith been meaningful to you?

4. Share some significant life experiences. What part did your faith play in these experiences?

5. What are some challenges to your faith that you have experienced (past or present)? How have you already faced, or do you plan to face these challenges?
