It's time for Family Faith Formation registration! At Good Shepherd, Family Faith Formation is open to all students in grades 1-6 and their parents. In the Family Faith Formation model, parents attend a monthly formation session that will equip them to teach the faith to their children through home lessons. During these sessions, the youth will attend classroom sessions on the topic of the month. Our curriculum will walk families through the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: the Profession of Faith, the Sacraments, the Life of Virtue, and Prayer. This year, we will be covering the Life of Virtue, and how we imitate Jesus in our actions. While Family Faith Formation is primarily intended for families who do not attend a Catholic school, we are hopeful that Good Shepherd School families will also utilize the Family Faith Formation Nights. Good Shepherd School families attend free as part of their tuition! Contact Alex for the coupon code.
Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is open to all Good Shepherd parish youth in second grade or above. Preparation is also open to non-parishioner students from Good Shepherd School who receive permission from their pastors. Children who enroll in this program must also be enrolled in the Good Shepherd Family Formation program or Good Shepherd School. Children who desire to receive these sacraments must be baptized in the Catholic Church. If your child has not yet been baptized, or if he or she was baptized in another Christian community, but you would like him or her to receive additional sacraments, please contact the parish office so that we can plan accordingly.
New this year, in addition to current eighth graders, we will be beginning Confirmation preparation for all Good Shepherd youth in seventh grade. Those who are going into eighth grade in 2022-2023 will be confirmed in the Spring as in past years. Those who are going into seventh grade in 2022-2023 will be confirmed in the fall of their eighth grade year (Fall 2023).
Youth who desire to receive this sacrament must have already received Baptism and First Holy Communion in the Catholic Church. If your child has not yet received these sacraments but would like to be confirmed, please contact the parish office so that we can talk through the initiation process.
This year, we will be implementing the Purpose Confirmation curriculum from LifeTeen. The program is focused on small groups led by parishioners with a heart for ministering to our teens, while seeking to answer life’s biggest questions, including: Why believe in God? Why believe Jesus is Lord and Savior? Why be a part of the Catholic Church?
Good Shepherd also provides for the faith formation needs of our adults. This happens in a variety of ways, including multiple-week programs (bible and catechism studies, prayer workshops), one-time programs (funeral planning session, end-of-life topics, music and liturgy conversations), seasonal mornings of reflection, and even the opportunity to discuss matters of faith over coffee or beer.
