Lift Up The City: Donation Drive and Outreach

In response to the death of George Floyd on Memorial Day and the unrest that followed throughout the region, as well as the hardships suffered by many of our brothers and sisters due to the pandemic, we are setting out to lift up those who are suffering with good works and prayer. We are hopeful that you will join our efforts.
Before and after Masses on the next two weekends (July 11/12 and July 18/19), we will be collecting non-food essential items and monetary donations to distribute to families that reside in the Lake Street area of South Minneapolis through a partnership with St. Stephens Catholic Church. St Stephens ministers to large community of Hispanic and immigrant families from South Minneapolis and surrounding areas which have been facing many hardships due to COVID-19 and the recent unrest. On Saturday, July 25, we will gather for the 8am Mass at Good Shepherd and then load and deliver the donations to South Minneapolis. Once these items have been delivered, we will drive to the Powderhorn neighborhood to continue with a prayer walk, lifting up the community spiritually and praying for an end to all forms of oppression and discrimination. Our prayer walk will be approximately a 3 mile loop from the George Floyd memorial site (Chicago Ave and 38th St) to Lake Street, a sign-up link can be found below so that we know how many people will be joining us on July 25th for delivery and the prayer walk. We’re asking for the following items:

Body soap
Hand Soap
Maxi Pads
Baby Wipes
Diapers (Especially Size 6 + Pull-ups)
Laundry Detergent
Paper Towels
Toilet Paper

If you would like to contribute financially, you can make checks payable to Good Shepherd and write “South Minneapolis Donation” on the memo line. Please drop off checks at the parish office or in the offertory boxes in the gathering space. Physical donations can be dropped off at the table in the gathering space under the Good Shepherd icon.
Please sign up HERE to let us know you plan to join us for the July 25th delivery and prayer walk. If you are unable to join us for the prayer walk on July 25th we invite you to join us in praying a rosary for an end to all forms of oppression, discrimination and violence.

Please contact Alex Schindler, Coordinator of Discipleship and Evangelization, with questions or to set up a time outside of the drop-off weekends to bring in your donations. Additional details and changes will be updated here as they are finalized.
