2021-2022 CHILDREN'S CHOIRS
Singing in a choir provides children a unique opportunity to grow in their faith and develop lifelong skills while building community and serving their parish and families with beautiful sacred music.
Starting in fall 2021 Good Shepherd will be offering two new children's choirs! Both choirs will follow a year-long curriculum focused on teaching fundamental singing skills, musicianship and music theory, and expose children to the rich heritage of Catholic sacred music. Both choirs are open to all boys and girls in the parish or school.
Tuition and Registration
Registration is now open for the fall and there will be another opportunity to register early in the new year.
In order to offset the costs of instructional materials, snacks, and additional staff at rehearsals and performances, there will be a tuition of $50 (capped at $150 per family) for the year. If this is a hindrance to your child's participation, please reach out to [email protected] to discuss options.
Registration links for each choir are below.
Cantate Choir, Grades 2-3
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 4:00-5:15 (Begins Sept. 8)
The Cantate Choir will rehearse once per week, and sing at 5-6 weekend Masses per year and select feast days and solemnities. Emphasis will be given to devloping the singing voice, rhythmic and melodic literacy, and general musicianship. The choir will present two seasonal concerts in combination with the Jubilate Choir.
Jubilate Choir, Grades 4-8 (unchanged voices)
Rehearsals: Thursdays, 4:00-5:15 (Begins Sept 2)
The Jubilcate Choir will primarily focus on preparing music to sing at weekend Masses on a monthly basis as well as Christmas and Easter Masses. Following the historical model of Catholic cathedral choirs, the children will occassionally join the Adult Choir to sing treble parts on SATB literature. Emphasis will be given to developing lyrical, vocal technique, note-reading and sight-singing skills, and exposure to a diverse array of repertoire from the treasury Catholic sacred music. In the spring of 2022, there will be an opportunity to travel to a regional children's choir festival as an ensemble.
