PRISM
The Church of the Good Shepherd is a supporting member of PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry). PRISM provides emergency and supportive services to people in the Northwest suburban communities of Plymouth, New Hope, Crystal, Robbinsdale and Golden Valley. The focus of PRISM is to encourage self-sufficiency. Member churches, civic organizations, foundations, city governments, area businesses and individuals fund PRISM.
The emergency food shelf may be accessed by clients through an intake process. Emergency food bags provide enough food for a 2-3 days supply of food for the family. Families can only use the food shelf once every 30 days.
PRISM has limited funds to assist in crisis situations with utility shutoffs, rent or mortgage payments, and free clothes to area residents in need. PRISM provides ongoing help for families working towards stability and self-sufficiency, and provides them with emotional support community resources and help with goal setting and problem solving. PRISM also provides extra assistance over the holidays, tax preparation help, free monthly haircuts by appointment, vouchers for free furniture and referrals for other services.
Volunteers are key people at PRISM. Volunteers are needed in capacity of receptionists, intake advocate, drivers for the transportation program, and help in the food shelf and clothes closet areas.
